And here's how he did it, minus the toothpaste of course.
scroll under Running Service, then Trainings-Tagebuch.
Chebii outsprinted? he lost by 3 seconds...
Summarizing his June training log:
Baumann runs a lot of easy recovery runs, mostly doubles. 10ks in 45min, 8ks in 36. His 1ks and 2ks aren't much under 3 min. per/km (2:52/5:52). Runs some decent tempos with "flott" sections of 10k only at 3:30 per k. One would think that he would train much faster than this. Go figure.
Mileage ranges from 90km (59 mi.) on a race week to 180km (approx 120 mi.) during the competition season (June).
That's a good disection. I'm wondering how you came up with 180km equalling 120 miles. I thought 160km was 100 miles add 20k to that and you get 112.
Either way, assuming he's clean now, running 13:15 at age 38 has got to be an age record, save Lopes?
isn't that wejo training more or less

Krafty, my math was a little off, I was multiplying the kilos by .66, .62 is a better figure, 180k comes out to 111.6 miles.
I've been a fan of Baumann since I saw him win the Oly 5k with that monster kick.
That is a mind-boggling time for a guy 2 years shy of masterhood.
Again, assuming he's clean, I think his training is great example for the Western runner. Africans seem to get away with a lot in their training. Specifically threshold work. If you notice Dieter breaks everything up. He rarely does everyday at threshold speeds like Moroccans, etc. Dieter's longevity could be a by-product of adhering to the easy/hard day principle. He also uses altitude at certain times and raced just enough to get himself peaking in August.
can someone tell me what he says about his doping in his website? I can't read German.
Die Drugge wast foundz in zie ToothPazte.
Great to see DB back where he belongs
when does he attempt a marathon again
I have always been a fan of Baumann's. He did run 13:15 in 2000 as well when he first came back. I liked that indoor 3000 when he and Wolde, Olympic champs 8 years apart and almost twice that in age difference, crossed the line together. His determination to continue coming back speaks volumes for his innocence I believe.
It doesn't sound like he is going to turn to the marathon after his attempt last year. His 10k is still good though.
he's not innocent, brother.
I admire the African runners immensely, but I look at them and I think that I don't have what it takes. Then, along comes someone like Bob Kennedy, Dieter Bauman, or Tim Hutchins and I feel like it is possible to at least be competitive at high levels with the African distance gods. So, I am glad the Dieter is competing again and improving. Additionally, he is an older runner like Lopes was and succeeding which is quite inspirational as well for me. It is nice to have heroes...and they don't have to be invincible.
I met Dieter last year at the Berlin marathon. He is very pleasant and approachable.
Remember he is running the NYC Marathon this year, right?
I am definitely a fan of his.
As for the "toothpaste incident," make up your own mind. He served his time, and obviously the French authorities are not going to cut him any slack whatsoever.
