I finished reading "Better Training for Distance Runners" and I have a question about his training method. I notice that he suggest doing anaerobic capacity workouts (as well as aerobic capacity workouts and threshold work) year round. Thats fine with me. I think I can benefit from this system instead of doing months and months of base and neglecting speed.
Now for my question. I understand that Coe suggests quite a bit of recovery time for anaerobic capacity workout and I am sure a workout like 8x 400m (95%-100% effort) with 3 minute recovery is fine (note; I did this workout and my 400m times were pretty much perfectly even). But what about anaerobic workouts close to a race (peaking workouts). In college, I\'ve always been thought that 2-3 weeks of anaerobic workouts with VERY little recovery is what peaks a runner (I remember doing workouts like 5x 400 (100%) with 30 sec. recovery and 300\'s *I forget how many* with a 100m walk).... Does Coe not advocate this?? or Am I missing something??'
