I have heard this mentioned before, and again recently after his horrible failure at the Pre 200m, but don't know what to make of it. I don't know anyone that runs the 400 and the 800 well. In HS, I remember indoors that some quarter milers could run the 500 and even the 600 (a rare event, but it was run on occasion), but would die at 800 when/if they tried it. On the flipside, quality half-milers would try the quarter on a 4x4 or an open race and usually top out around 49 seconds.
Why do people believe that Wariner would run well at 800 meters? I don't know his background, but did he start out doing middle distances? And aren't the training regimens for 400 and 800 dramatically different? The former being sprint based training and the latter being a lot of speed work but definitely in the distance running tradition, so to speak?
What do people who want him to move up think he can run in the 800? If he is running 44 seconds for the 400, are people thinking he could coast to a 1:40 or 1:41?? That seems a little ridiculous.
