Maybe this has been mentioned before, so bear with me.
I have noticed more and more people (non track athletes) using spike bags as a purse/backpack.
Has anyone else noticed this occurance?

i'm pretty sure it's not because track athletes use them that they've become popular. so, no, track isn't the trend setter.
It's because they've been given away as cheap promotional items, usually called 'backpacks' or 'gym bags.' When I first noticed this a couple of years ago, I too thought...WOW, spike bags are HOT!
I've noticed this as well. In fact our athletic department hands out these bags to everyone at the start of the season... obviously not everyone uses them as spike bags.
What about those abercrombie "track" jackets and those trendy shoes that look like racing flats?
i doubt, however, that split shorts will become part of everyday style.
Here in Australia the split shorts are going off, somehow I can't see the U.S. getting into it, maybe the girls would
Have to call you out, I am in Australia and it is bloody cold at the moment (if you are north of Coffs Hbr you may have a case). brrrrrr .. But come summer, why not - think Tom Long from 'Two Hands'. Split shorts and thongs (flip flops) oh yeah!
At my school, since all the black kids use them, we (the white kids) call those bags "blackpacks". No, we are not racist.
TRACK has been setting the trend for over 50 years. Where do you think the exercise revolution started? Before there were bikers or swimmers there were runners. We started a running revolution.
Back then everyone wore flanel shirts, long pants, and leather shoes. On my campus I was the first guy to wear a T shirt (then known as an 'undershirt'). and running shoes to class. I was asked not to wear short to class too but I did it anyway. We runners are trend setters and we show others how to live their lives.
Even more important WE Runners demonstrate courage and self dicipline. Others look to us for leadership because we do it all by ourselves (NO CAR, no bike, only our legs)
