A while ago, I heard from a coach that if you train to the best of your ability, your time for the 2K run will be the same as your mile time if you didn't train at all. He said that this was true for 90-95% of the population, and the only exceptions were non-responders, super-responders, and really injury prone guys.
What do you guys think about this? If El G didn't train at all, would his mile time be 4:44 (his 2K PR)? If the average untrained 7:00 guy trained to the best of his ability, would he only be able to run a 7:00 2K?
