I have run 10 miles before without shoes on.
everyone should have at least run a few hundred meters, or they deserve to be euthanized.

I do all my post-run striders/pickups barefoot when I can.
I also play ultimate shoeless if its on a nice field.
Never done an actual training run shoeless before though and I probably never will.
I ran a mile (grass) and it was actually nice other than people looking at me like I was crazy. How do you build up to running 10 miles barefoot safely?
While I don't know about the euthanasia, I really enjoyed running barefoot. 2 summers ago I really made an effort to do a lot of barefoot running to see if it would help. Got up to 8 or so miles at a time barefoot. Some workouts, some just easy runs with strides. About 15-20 miles barefoot a week as part of a 80-95 mpw total.
I think it helped my form at least temporarily but I did not improve noticeably. I think my body was so trained to run the other way, that trying to run a new way, even though it seemed better, did nothelp me. Maybe if I did it a whole lot I would be able to capitalize on the better technique.
In MI you're pretty much guaranteed to have to break for winter and start over. My feet never got very tough.
when available always try to run barefoot as part of sand dune and/or beach/sea training sessions
Great feeling-total freedom!
depends upon where you live about the break for winter, but yeah for the most part that's true. at least scale back big-time.
I've done like 4 miles in campus loops barefoot. My feet were tired!
I worked at a children's camp one summer when I was almost 16, every week we would have a meeting of all the staff. I had some time to kill after the end of the camp day and before the meeting. there was an outdoor 200m asphalt track at this camp (which was a part of a community centre).
I did not have running shoes on or with me, only skateboarding shoes. I took them off, and ran 2200 metres of intervals barefoot on the asphalt.
The soles of my feet stung for a few days after that.
3 or 4 miles on trails. i had a few scrapes on the bottoms of my feet but i definitely thought it was better than pavement for sure. i've also experimented with some homemade shoes that give the full training benefits of barefoot without tearing your soles up. but somehow it still isn't the same...
all hard workouts and races for last 3 years of college. At one time hmm not that far whatever the farthest track workout we did was- maybe 6 miles?
I did a twelve miler or so on trails and dirt roads. I still do reps on a golf course in summer when I can. There really is no reason to wear shoes on a golf course unless you are golfing.
I aint not never worn no shoes and me run all time. I runs clear to the other county and back one time.
I started running when i was just a little boy at the age of 11 on the beach. The second year i started running to my "girlfriends" beach which was 4.5 miles downn, and then i ran back. I did that for about 3 years then stopped going to the beach. I ran 30 minutes out last year, and 30 minutes back barefoot... thought i could handle it... my feet were bleeding at the turn around point, dumbest... most painful thing i've ever done to my feet.
I was never injured until my freshman year of college and i blame that all on the fact that i ran so much barefoot when i was a boy. my coaches and training had nothing to do with it (sarcasm)
15 miles on sand.
12 miles on grass trails.
10 miles on roads (long story).
Have you guys ever stepped on glass or nails while barefoot running?
did 4 miles on a good golf course one time.
I ran from Virginia to Canada with no shoes. How far is that?

no one cares
I once won the Olympic Marathon in Rome barefoot.
But what few people realize is that I didnt go barefoot on purpose. My shoes were unusable when I got to rome and I was unable to get another pair in time so I had to run barefoot. By the next Olympics I made sure I had shoes.
Oh by the way I am posting this from beyond the grave
