Before my race this weekend, had a banana and powerbar for breakfast (maybe an hour and a half to 2 hours before) and coffee.
Got to the line light headed and hungry (despite consuming at least 300 to 350 calories). Was fine through the first 5k - comfortable, controlled. Struggled the 2nd half with that low blood sugar, light headed feeling. My fitness is pretty good, and my pace should not have dropped like it did (15 sec per mile last half). I know there was a blood sugar thing going on.
Anyone else experienced this? I worry about eating more before I run - any suggestions?
