Is the Eugene meet OVERHYPED ? (Again)

Suggesting a track meet is overhyped is a bit of a contradiction isn't it?

5k will be hot if Ritz is still racing (he will be hurt next week) and there is going to be a steeplechase as well.

What is the prize money breakdown?

Anything pertaining to running in Eugene is overhyped anymore. Sad but true, and unfortunately unfair to XO and Team Eugene.

There are good 5000s and good 800s and there is Sanya Richards. What's the problem?

I just noticed that the 5000m will be contested on Saturday following the NCAA Western Regional meet. That's too bad for spectators of Sunday's meet; I'd couldn't get to the regional meet, but was toying with the idea of going to the Sunday meet. Not so sure now.

Track could use all the attention it can get. As a growing soprt, maybe an over-hyped meet or two won't hurt anyone. It is going to get two days worth of TV coverage, which I feel is a GREAT thing!

And if you consider the prize money and the top-rated athletes I think over-hyped is the last way I'd explain it. It isn't the Pre classic, but is it a going to be a great meet.

Just take the hype when it comes. Maybe I'm just dreaming, but I think track is on a bit of a comeback.

Er, coming back from what to what?

Any exposure beyond minimum could be considered a come back from those supposed glory days of the 60's and 70's, which,, quite frankly, I only vaguely remember. But hey, like a few others have said, why would anyone complain about hype, exposure, media, tv, attention for something we all follow 24-7 anyway. It can only be a good thing for present and future runners to have attentiona nd more money infused in anyway, no matter if you like or dislike Eugene.

No. It's not overhyped. In fact, PB could have done a much better job marketing it -- although I suspect the marketing budget was slim. He should talk to MW who gets it done.

Just back from a day at Eugene track.

Goucher 3rd beaten by Mexican and Riley. No Ritz. Dan Browne looked awful.

Cack Ferrell 2nd in 15:42 behind Mexican who was 15:32.

Lauren Fleshman, Georgie Clarke first and second in 4:12 and 4:13.
