I'd say Ryun, getting on an Olympic team at 17 years old is pretty sweet. Breaking 4 as a junior and senior in a time when the WR was still over 3:50 is pretty damn good as well.

Although, educationally speaking, undergraduate studies at Ohio State may be equivalent to high school, I don't think that's what the original poster had in mind.

How could you disrepsect Ryun or Gerry L ?

I'd even have to put Pre on that list infront of Rupp, Ritz, or Sage. Webb is the only guy that hang with old timers. Sage wasn't even as good as Torres or Louchini or Powell.

Lindgren's 8:40 from 64 still stands.

indoors on wooden boards in 1964? yes

1. I'm going to have to say Lindgren at least as far as versatility is concerned. went 4:01, 8:40, and 13:44 which means he ran faster at at least one of the distances than any of the other guys.

2. Next would be Don Sage who closed a 56 last lap of an 8:40 2mile. He probably could've gone a faster and had plenty of other credentials.

3. Ryun. made olympic team, went sub 4 at 17. Didnt have the endurance to do what lindgren did at 5k so thats really the only reason he isnt number 1.
