I will probably be running this marathon this coming December. Has anybody had any experience with this particular race? Looks like there is a decent hill after mile 20 from the elevation map on the website. Doesn't seem to be too much information floating around about it though. Also, if you have any idea, what are the cash prizes like if there are any?
It's a pretty decent marathon with usually good weather. I've been in or near Dallas all my life and done the relay a few times. This year they put up $10k for 1st and $2500 for second. Also, New Balance is the shoe sponsor and they are said to be bringing in some elites to run it. The hill right after 20 is not too bad when you run it fresh, but it can get you after 20 miles. After that it's a gradual downhill to the finish. No more hills after that. If you're gunnin for a fast time it's not a bad course to run. Check out the website at whiterock-marathon.com

Nope, never been west of Tennessee. I was looking at the website and last year's results. Hoping to run 2:32-35 and that looks like it got in the money last year, that's why I asked. I guess it might take a bit faster to get in the prize places this year if what you are saying is true. What's the weather usually like around the time of the race?

I ran it once. I remember a few hills around 20 miles but nothing too significant. They actually helped me use some different muscle groups and break out of my late-race funk.
The organization was great, it was convenient to get from my hotel to the start, and the course is interesting until the last couple of miles (but who cares at that point?). I'd give it an 8 out of 10.
2:22 or so won it that year, approx. 3000 runners, the weather was 35* at the start 50* and sunny at the finish.
I've run it for times, 2:59 plus including my scary 2:57 PR. The weather is usually ameniable to good efforts, and, although it's not pancake flat, decent times can be had.
Being from Dallas, however, I can tell you that IT WILL BE WINDY! And there is always a chance of sleet and freezing rain in December as well. Nice people and fairly decent course makes for a good expereince overall though.
The weather is usually good. If there is wind, and chances are better than average that there will be some wind, you are rarely just being blown away. A lot of the course is run in areas where you have some cover from the wind. As I said the weather is usually really good but December in Dallas can bring almost anything so be prepared. The hill at 20 is the only significant obsticle on the course. The slight downhill from about 21 to the finish is quite welcome after you get over the bump.
Are you sure you don't want to come to town in march and do the Texas marathon? You can win a 1000 bucks just standing around!!!!!
