Liz Duncan Memorial Fund from Brooks Running

How sad. My prayers are with her family and friends.

I was fortunate to meet Liz a couple weeks ago while working out with the younger adults on my weekly hard workout and again the next week while in Vancouver to run the Sun Run. You could feel her youthful exuberance and excitement when talking to her.

We are all saddened by this tragic accident.

man, that pissse me off to no end. a life lost because some asshole couldn't control a car.

The driver was a 16 year old girl. I imagine she feels pretty terrible now too. It's a sad lesson for all of us...we are all so vulnerable when we are out on the roads.

This is so sad. I used to run around that area a bit in college never really thought how dangerous it could be. I suppose when it rains all the time in seattle drivers tend to forget to slow down. we all need to be a bit more careful out on the roads. Rest in Peace Liz, your your wonderful service from Brooks and to the community will be greatly missed!

Mark, thanks for posting on Liz. She truly was amazing as we know from being around her. Her running career really was just starting to begin as seen as with a 1:24 half marathon. God shined brightly through her life!

I didnt know liz at all. Never even heard of her but this is extremely sad. i guess we could all be a little careful, i know im pretty careless when im on the roads. I guess we can always remember that she died doing what she loved...RIP and my thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends. Happy Birthday liz

To Unknown SADNESS here are the facts of what happen:

"She was standing on a sidewalk while waiting to start a workout when an out of control car jumped a curb on a wide turn and hit her. She died instantly from the impact." Liz's running partner was not hurt who was standing beside her on that sidewalk. An unbelievable tradegy!

My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.

She sounds like a wonderful, fantastic person admired by all who knew her. She left a positive impact on so many and lived life to the fullest. Those who knew her were blessed to have her in their life.

Liz was here at UD with AIA a couple of years ago and we were all deeply saddened when we heard the news. Liz always had a smile on her face and was just a great person. Liz's family and friends are in our thoughts and prayers.

I was blessed to know Liz and be one of her many running partners and friends over the last six months. I was to be with her that morning but since I was not training for the specific event the workout was for I opted for a longer run. I am deeply saddened by the lost of such a young and wonderful woman with so many things to still experience in life. She will never be forgotten!

In light of this tragic accident which was completely preventable, I would like to raise awareness within the city of Seattle to pedestrian safety. Currently this is a hot topic with our Mayor who has a 10 Point Plan. Seattle regularly ranks as one of the top ten fittest cities in the US; one would think we would be strong advocates for pedestrian safety. Please do your part, get involved to help make our streets safer.

It's worth clarifying that the driver, not the pedestrian, could have prevented this accident. Liz was standing on a sidewalk, away from the curb.
