Seriusly. This puts Oregon in great position to take the D1 title for the next 2-3 years. Last years class was incredible and now this. When was the last time that the national champion for 2 years in a row went to the same schoool?

and how are they getting the money to pay for all these recruits. where is the level playing field? nike pays for rupp's trips to europe three years running. they have about 12 footlocker guys in the past 2 years, plus a sprints and field events program. something is really wrong when they cheat. guys like kid centrowitz are getting a full ride, clearly all the other guys are too. cheats. but b/c its nike, and oregon, and vin, its swept under the rug.

I read an article about Oregon's recruiting recently and it mentioned that many of their top recruits are getting little or no scholarship money. It mentioned that the Mercados were in this category, I believe.

well, in oregon's defense. I am not seeing any dominance at the NCAA meet XC, indoor, or outdoor yet.

they went from 6th in their region to 5th or 6th in the nation in one year...i think thye are on their way.

Has he really only run 1:57? Not trying to bash...he must have some pretty awesome endurance. How many 1:57 guys are under 4:15 in the country? 5 or 6? let alone 4:10?

people mention this everytime oregon is brought up. sure they have some awesome talent on their team and they are a big threat for national titles in the future but if you think oregon is alone in getting good recruits then you aren't really paying attention.

look at UCLA's recruiting class for this year... its pretty sick and that program hasn't even gotten close to the accomplishments that vin has in the past, and right now they are already paying for some great athletes like david klech et al. arkansas has had some awesome talent grace fayetteville over the years including runners from around the globe, after all Mc d has won 40 national titles. Wisconsin has two footlocker titlists as well as several finalists on their team and they have quite the sprinter in demi. these 'premier' schools are not alone, UTEP, Fl state, stanford and any other good school could probably be questioned as well. Just because you get talented athletes does not mean you are cheating, in fact logic would tell you that higher profile teams probably have a harder time getting away with it (but maybe the fact that they have mastered cheating got them there and everyone does it, who knows). the Rupp situation is kinda shady but its not unique either.

Irish Mac D\'s titles are mostly indoors which the PAC 10 doesn\'t compete seriously at. Most of the coaches and track team is on hiatus during the winter months. Still Mac D is a great coach. UCLA competes in the PAC 10 and has 99 team champs in the most competitive and strongest conference in the NCAA including football.

Newsflash:

Eliminate the indoor titles and Arkansas still has more NCAA cross country and outdoor track titles than UCLA for men. Winning the PAC 10's isn't the same. Ask Vin. He's recruiting and coaching to win the NCAA's. PAC 10 is the appetizer course.

Same way Stanford did. One set of twins from last year are on no money, the other set on a few grand (three of them were footlocker finalist). AJ is on around 55-60%, another sub 3:50 1500m high school runner is on books. Vin looks for kids with rich parents who will flip a lot of the bill. He looks for smart kids for academic money. He looks for poor kids for free government aid. He looks for kids to walk on who haven't even begun to hit their potential. Vin will always out recruit everyone. If he was at the crappiest college in America he'd still get a few footlocker finalist. Vin is that good.

Actually...that isnt true. See his time at Oberlin, which was obviously a powerhouse!

He was the AD at Oberlin, not the XC/Track coach.

When Vin was the coach at CW Post he had good teams for the school. Whereever he has been he has been a success.
