my highschool coach says that if i go out in 60, i will extend a big lead from everybody and then i can settel in to my good ole' 67ish pace.
i dont understand why i should go out in 60 if im not running a 4:00 mile. it just draws me right into lactic acid. it takes all my effort to run 60 for 2 laps (800).
my philosophy is that one who runs that mile should go out at goal pace, 2nd lap just as fast, work lap 3 so you dont loose pace, and then lap 4 is h3lls bells because at that point you can see the finish line. the fast start that my coach is referring to will only deminish any sort of kick for my last lap.
this coach is a little too agressive for the mile, im glad im primarily under the influence of my personal coach, not my highschool coach. it sometimes make me mentally upset, but then i take a few deep breaths and realize that he is a highschool coach and sometimes mixes and spinters physiological strategies with a distance runners physiological strategies. coaches are only people that are trying to help, but can sometimes hurt mentally and physically. they are only trying to do their job and you have to really listen to your body and do what feels right.
i have even contemplated about running college track, because im sick of the coaches hammering me on recovery days, not giving adequate recovery time between intervals for maximum pace efficiency, and overall mental and physical distress. my phiolosophy is that hard days should be HARD and easy days should be EASY. my easy days are much EASIER than everyone elses because my hard days are much HARDER. i believe i have earned the right to recover to my fullest extent/capability. i believe that if i follow
"the golden rule" that i will become a champion on my own credentials. theres no reason i cant train myself to a low 4:00 for 1500 in the upcoming summer/summers.
this coach is a little too aggressive for me.
