NAIA coaches/athletes: can someone explain the right of membership rules for NAIA? How exactly does qualifying work for NAIA Track?
1) There is an automatic mark- If you hit this...you automatically qualify for the championships.
2) There is a provisional mark- If you hit this AND are in the top 16...you qualify for the championships.
3) If you hit the provisional mark AND AREN'T in the top 16 (Final performance list)...the school can use up to 3 "right of entry" for you to go.
Wrong !
If you hit the "A" standard you are qualified.
If you hit the "B" (provisional) standard your coach can use the "right of entry" priviledge to take up to 3 provisional to nationals. In the multi-events there is not a provisional standard--they take the top 16 regardless. If you were an All-American in the previous same season National Championship and achieve at least a mark/time in that same event sometime during the season, your coach can use a "right of entry" to take him/her to nationals. A returning All-American right of entry counts as one of the 3 the coach is permitted.
both of you are right on how it is done. the top 16 times are automatically made into auto qualifiers if there aren't more than 16 A standard times already hit.
Catfish,
So where exactly was I "wrong"?
