So which event would you choose? Would you be a sprinter or a distance guy? A thrower? Is it for the glory, the money, the excitement, the chicks? I think I'd pick the mile.

marathon they're the only elite runners who actually make it into any major newspapers aren't they?
100m, for the chicks, for the money.
50 km race walk. I'd be total star in Mexico and Poland. Sweet.
The 1500. Easily the sexiest event in track and field.
200m.
as much glory as any event, plus all the chicks. 100m is for pussies.

All great track events.
I'd probably go for the 5k if for no other reason than that it would be cool to put the U.S. back on the map as far as distance running goes. At the same time, it would be tempting to go for the 100m just because that's the only event that the general public really seems to care about.
5000m
If you were world class you could still close in 52 which is what the 800m guys close in; just realized that, very wild. But by being world class in the 5000 you could also do road races from the mile to the 10km. You aren't totally fried to race quite a bit and by all accounts the 5000 guys get their fair share of the ladies.
If the decathlon is allowed for this discussion, I choose that :) Why be good at 1 event when you could be good at 10?
For a single event, I've always loved the 400m. 1500m would likely be my second choice.
the 50k walk.....psyche! just kidding
the hammer throw
1500m, just cause it feels good

That's the funniest post I've ever seen on any message board.
Mandingo I didn't realize you had such a good sense of humor.
1500, so that I could bitchslap webb for making yet another boneheaded move in the final.

Gotta go 800 or 1500. Anything longer than that, and you're racing starts getting limited due to recovery, etc.
I always thought it would be great to be an elite 800 guy- the race is over fairly quickly, but it is still long enough to be influenced by tactics.
Steeple.

But that's not a track or even a field event!
100m - most $, most exposure.
