This is aweful
need to learn to spell. Is it aweful, or awful?
"There was a very, very light rain. There wasn't anything in the way of dark clouds. It didn't look anything like a thunderstorm."
Doesn't sound like there was much to do to prevent this. Very rare and freaky. I wonder if there were light towers around this track? Usually taller objects will take the hit.
sory im to st st stoopid (slobbering all over myself)

I said this in the other thread.
As soon as you start having overcast, and light drizzle, no matter how far away a storm sounds, you should head indoors.
usually drizzle and clouds mean a storm is coming. At least check the weather channel. No need for senseless deaths.

That's silly.

A kid DIED because most people think thats silly like you do. IF WE COULD CHANGE THAT ATTITUDE, YOUNG-INNOCENT KIDS WOULDN"T HAVE TO DIE NEEDLESSLY.
what if you live in the pacific northwest where it drizzles almost every day?

5 minutes of planning that can save a life. its worth it. do it. make others do it. don't be like mountain dew.
People getting killed by lightning is STILL a very rare occurance. Teaching everyone to do that is, IMHO, overkill.
how is saving even ONE SINGLE LIFE overkill?
I'm not arguing something crazy like DON"T RUN or DON"T swim or DON"T DRIVE or DON"T EAT.
I'm just saying check the fricken news and weather reports.
Athletes are more likely to get struck anyways.
No disrespect to the kid as he's a fellow brother in the track fraternity and it was a tragedy but since when is it worthy of cancelling classes for the death of on?.....
All those Floridians flying their kites on the beaches are driving up the number!

Dude, it's overkill to say that you should 'head inside' as soon as it gets overcast. Are you kidding? Do you know what the chances of getting hit by lightning are while running, even in a strong storm? Beyond infinitesimal (sic). You'd be far more likely to save lives by saying 'don't run on the street.' Cars are much more dangerous, my friend.
Probably about 100 people died today on the roads. Should we not drive? It would save a LOT more lives.
That has to be one of the unkindest, uncompassionate, and stupidest post I have read on lets run.
I would charactereize it as a once-a-monther. And that is utterly heartless.
Not that I agree with him, but to provide perspective...
I had 3 guys in my Senior class die during the year, and we had classes after each death. Tough few months for us though.
