I am moving to Omaha in a few weeks to start a new job, and was wondering if any letsrunners know of good places to run in the Omaha area. Softer surfaces would be preferred. Thanks in advance for any help.

The best places would be near city limit signs, going past away from the middle of town.

I am so sorry.
What about running around Warren Buffet's home. Should be at least 1mi around.
Since no one else is offering real good advice I'll give you some:
1)lake zorinsky...8 mile around the lake with the opportunity to run on grass most of the way.
2)Chalco Lake...6 mile loop also has a XC cross on it
3)Keystone trail...trail through the city...a little boring but it is long.
4)Papio trail...alot like the keystone
4)Wabash trace is probably one of the nicest places...just a short drive over into Iowa
5)Fontanelle Forest...my favorite place hands down...miles on single track in the forest.
6) Lewis and Clark...short drive over in Iowa...hilly forest singletrack.
These were the places I usually trained as well as hopping on the track at UNO.
Go to omaharun.org to view a complete city trail map or just email me if you have any questions. All in all not a bad place to run and live...summers and winters kinda suck but it will make you tough.
check out this as well http://www.omahatrails.com
Matt,
Thank you very much for the helpful information. It is greatly appreciated.

Good recommendations all the way around--particularly Fontanelle Forest. I'd also suggest Neale Woods--a little ways out of town, but still nice place to go. Fewer people than at FF.
Swanson Park in Bellevue is a favorite of mine. 5 miles of singletrack in the woods.
I have been living in Council Bluffs for a year and I have not had a chance to make it to a lot of the places yet, but the Wabash is great. It is a rails to trails so out and backs are the normal routine there. It is a crushed limestone surface. It is also a privately run trail open to the public and membership is $10 a year.
I forgot about Neale Woods and Swanson Park...both great places to run.
I lived in bugaha once....Be prepared for some of the hottest most humid summers you've ever encountered....Then there's the amazingly cold putrid ice storms and -65 degree winters....You pretty much don't leve your hour for 8 months out of the year....Invest in a quality treadmill.

I personally like Standing Bear Lake... it's just over a 4 mile run(Around the lake itself), and if you cross 144th St on the north side there is a 2+ mile stretch of trail as well. It is located just off of State St. between 132nd and 144th St.
I should say just over 4 miles if you run the grass on 144th St.
Where at Fontanelle? I tried to run there and they said it was only for walkers
very disappointed seeing I live in Bellevue
