I believe you have to ask Larry Rawson that question.
I'd guess if the track was laid in the last 20 years it's metres.
Assuming it is a 400 meter track it would be 1600 meters. A mile is 1609.34 meters.
If it is a 440 yard track then one lap is 402.336 meters so 4 laps would = 1609.34 meters or a mile.
Actually, a mile is exactly 1609.344 meters
