That said, there are some real idiots for dog owners. For them, owning a pitbull is like owning a gun. Only instead of just giving them the gun, we give them all the pieces to put the gun together themselves.
A responsible dog owner knows how to properly raise a pitbull, and it will NOT be dangerous and it is NOT an inherently vicious animal. Unfortunately, responsible dog owners are a dying breed. (pun intended)
As a matter of fact, they were originally bred to be agressive and fight (hence the name pitbull). Generations of breeding for selected traits have bred out the "leniency" instincts of other breeds - they are far more likely to attack something even if it is showing no signs of agression (e.g lying on the ground - think children, other dogs already severly hurt, etc.)
Why anyone wants to own one of these beasts is beyond me - I guess it's the same logic used to justify assault weapons for personal use and wild animals. Newsflash- sometimes the greater good of society outweighs so called "personal freedoms".
(By the way, can you tell i've been attacked by a pit bull while running before?)
