DivII college with good medical school

The only one that meets your criteria is UC San Diego.

P.S. We have big Kiwi and Aussie populations in SD and we know all of the sheep jokes here.

Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan is probably the best in the United States for Medical schools regardless of division, and they are a Division II school, who happends one of the best running programs in the nation too. If I were going to med school, and wanting to run somewhere, I would definately go there. From what I understand the coach is pretty sweet!

I don't know much about the running program (which may say something or may not...I don't really follow DII), but claiming it is the best medical school in the country is an overstatement. Stanford, Hopkins, Mayo, Harvard, Wash U...come on.

Wayne state belongs on that list for great medical schools, and could lead it in some areas depending on who you ask. In terms of Division 2 schools, a running program, and medical school wayne is probably the best. Cross Country men's team was 6th in the nation. Have you seen that place? It has got to be one of the preimier medical colleges in the united states. Ask someone in the medical field if a medical degree from wayne state has as much clout a medical degree from Stanford, or any of the other schools you mentioned.

I'd have to agree on Wayne State or UCSD.

Most DII schools are not PhD granting institutions (especially with the departure to DI of several of the larger DII's), so your choices are probably somewhat limited.

Wayne State is one of the best for emergency medicine.

It's in Detroit.

Actually Wayne State is highly regarded among people who know medicine. They're not on par with the "names" in academia, but they hold their own as a state school.

A few years ago I heard an excellent talk about mapping the human genome done by a professor from their med school.

As I recall it was top ranked for Obs and Gyn by NIH last year?

Wayne State is a great program for cross country and does have a legit med school. I really don't know what they're strong in as far as your research interests are concerned, but it's worth looking into.

please, dude, are you kidding me? wayne state? it is a third tier med school, second at best...if you are choosing between UCSD and Wayne state, so question...any residency program in the country is going to look more favorably on UCSD...get a clue...if you go to wayne state it means only one thing, you didn't get into michigan.

Pretty much any med school in the US is going to have a good program. Don't get me wrong...I'm not saying it's a bad school by any means, I'm just saying that calling it the best medical school in the country is probably an overstatement.

Well, since no one has weighed in with any other options, your choice is really San Diego versus Detroit, which makes it a slam dunk. Have you ever been to Detroit in the Winter? Half of my family is from Detroit and they couldn't wait to leave. My dad went to Wayne State and he couldn't wait to leave. I went to school and ran in California, and I hated to leave. My coach ran for UC San Diego at one point and he loved it. Moreover, I was a microbiology undergraduate major, and UCSD and San Diego in general is renowned for it's medical research.

Stagger, from your PRs etc I think I know who you are off of nzrun.com results/messageboard etc (but you probably don't know of me ...). Just saying. A good recent 3km _and_ a medical degree _from_ the Antipodes doesn't describe a lot of people.

You have a difficult needle to thread here. As other commenters have sort of pointed out, the intersection of D-II cross country/track, and medical graduate school worth coming abroad for is pretty small.

You might want to check out the University of Minnesota-Duluth as another option. They have a graduate program in some biomedical areas which is offered in conjunction with the larger (and thus probably better academically) Twin Cities campus, but the UMD campus participates in D-II cross country and track.

The other needle you'll have to thread is the combination of athletic or academic scholarships. you should look into the fulbright program.
