I'm trying to work my guys kinda hard this week since we dont have a race until the 17th. I wanted a workout that involve all my runners (mid to long distance); I also wanted to see what kind of shape they are in compared to each other.
Would a 2 mile or 3k race on the track be good for them? I have only one 800/1500 guy, and he missed cross and hasnt raced in a while. I figured the 2 miles would improve his strength and help him regain racing mentality. I have a couple of 5k guys who need to learn to run together in races and could use a little bit of speed in them. I also have one 10k guy (freshman) who needs to learn to race smart and could use the speed.
I dont want to wear them out, but I want to test them a little and let them get some racing under them. Would a 2 mile time trial or race benefit them or hurt them as opposed to some 1k's or 1200's???
