I'm coming into outdoor track with very little fitness because of injury. One of my teammates is always trying to bring attention to himself and wants to beat me really bad. So, just to have a little fun I thought I'd coast through the first couple meets and not really care about time or place. Then, when I know I'm in pretty good shape, out of the blue I'll run really well and smoke his ass. Is this a bad idea? I really don't care about attention, I'd just kind of like to beat the kid who's been talking crap to me all indoor.

why don't you just "smoke his ass" in the first race then?

because I won't be able to, duh. I said I'm not coming in very fit. What's your reading level?
Probably at the same level as your reading comprehension level. Nowhere in your paragraph do you say that you are unable to beat your teammate. You say that he wants to beat you very badly. There are a couple of things that one could imply from your paragraph:
1) Your teammate is unable to beat you, but wants to do so now that you aren't at total fitness;
2) You are going to coast in your races... basically let him win.
It would be easy for one to infer that since you would be coasting, your teammate would best you in a race. However, if you were to race 100%, it wouldn't be so cut and dry.
I can understand female's sarcastic reply, though. It sounds like you're the pu55y here, asking for permission to sandbag because you're afraid of getting your ass handed to you by what you consider an inferior runner.
