He had some sort of health problem early in the season and seemed completely out of shape. We all thought his chances at the olypics were close to zero. Boy, we were wrong...

he had a chest infection, but didn't he finish in like 332 that race? must have been an insane finish. link to results?

he was leading with 100m to go and given his sinus/chest problems, he had no kick and the whole field just blew by him in the final homestretch. i think he was on sub3:30 pace for most of the race and at 1200 looked like another rabbit-affair win for ElG. But on the last quarter he was driving but not getting away from the field like he normally would and then with 100 to go he fell apart.

Kenyan with an English name. I think the race was won in 3:50 for 1500m, if memory serves me correctly. Long season.

Actually, if I'm not totally confused, he was featured in a global advertising campaign for UPS in the years around the 2000 Olympics. Lots of ads with him running and driving a UPS truck or something. He's up there with guys like, say, Anthony Whiteman, a white guy who ran 3:32 the same year that Anderson set his best time, and who also probably doesn't have a particularly big fan base here on letsrun.

if i was drugged as much as el g i would run similar times

actually those results from rome are incorrect. willis beat el g. Its clear on video. so really el g was 9th.

so he must be better! Ignorance is bliss. No-one will ever beat Elliotts record. Undefeated in a 1500/mile race - setting a world record in an olympic final. ONE olympic 1500m final one victory.

I saw Anderson in a local race in 2002 and he was nowhere near his earlier capacity. I think he ran something like 3,43.

Watch this race and you'll see that Nick Willis actually beats ElG,so really he should be 9th. I was never really sure why these results were never amended...

It's too hard to compare Herb with ElG, as than ran in different times on different tracks and most importantly, with different bench marks to chase. A race between Herb, Jim Ryun and ElG all in their peaks would be awesome to watch. With no rabbits, I'd go for JR. With Rabbits, you'd be a better man than me to split Herb and ElG..JR would be too far off the pace with 300 to go to win.

ryun's peak was only 7y after elliot's '60 win & seeing as ryun ran ~2.5s faster than him on cinders as well, i see no reason why ryun coudn't match elliot in a rabbited race

Cause I'd see Ryun running in a way were he like to run a blazing last lap, were Elliot and ElG would like to set the race up early on. Ryun still has the fastest last 300m of any 1500m WR race. His last 1200m is still one of the fastest 1200 ever. He clearly liked to close fast. How many paced races did Elliot run in. Also, who was the last person to set a 1500 WR in an OG final?
