In high school, Track/XC was the sport to join if you had been cut from baseball, soccer, football, Lax, etc... if you had no coordination...if you were completely unathletic... if you were the captain of the ...[insert nerdy activity]
Coach almost never denied anyone, boy, girl, athletic, or unathletic... there was always room.
It's ironic a sport so accepting is increasingly not being accepted. You didn't have to be affluent...you could be dirt poor as Carl Lewis' parents were...and you could still make it to the big time. You didn't need expensive equipment, just shoes and shorts..
Seriously guys, wtf is wrong with this society, we have our sports priorities all messed up when a poker player is given more attention than a man who has sweated out 100s of miles for weeks on end. Maybe sport is not what I thought it once was.......
