Being an800m/1500m Runner i could benefit with improving my speed(200m ~25 Secs). With around 2 Months to go until the start of track season and 6 months to peak i am wondering is it ok to do devote one of my 3 quality sessions a week to pure speed? Or would this make me peak too early?However, towards the end of the track season where i will be aiming to peak i will be able to add a 4th quality session a week which may prevent me peaking earlier?
i.e.
Session 1: Longer reps.
Session 2: lots of 100s/200s/300s etc with short recovery
Session 3: Pure speed? 60m etc?
Im hoping that if i devote a session to speed now i will be able to improve my speed to at least 24 secs for 200m which will bring about good progress in my times in the 800m and 1500m.
Im just wondering if people can help me out here with opinions, thoughts etc?
