Any ideas on at what pace I should aim for in a 5000? My pb from last July was 16:25, however I've only been running little over 2 years and feel my training has progressed significatly since last summer.
Session 1: 4 x 1600 in average 4:55 with 400m easy run (about 1min 45s) recovery. Slowest 4:46, fastest 4:54.
Session 2: 12 x 400m continuous with 100m 'easy run' (faster than jogging, slower than steady pace) between efforts. first 8 avg 69s, next 4 avg 71s, (fastesxt 68s. slowest 72s). In this session I covered 12.5 laps in 16:20. Was very tired for the last couple of efforts.
Hitting around 90mpw which includes a 70min and 120min long runs, plus a 30min tempo run at 5:40 pace, which equates to 85% max HR. The rest is pretty easy mileage.
Any thoughts on target pace for an early season 5000?
