My tip;

Shabunin is the worst.
I think the guy who beat Geb and Bekele.
In addition, for his PR, Michael East is up there.
best in world- el G
best in the U.S- Lunn or krum
worst in the world- webb
worst in the u.s.- webb
WEBB IS THE WORST
Best - was yobes ondieki in winning 5000m at world champs, ran a great tactitcal race to beat all teh fast finnishers + there was a guy who won a 10000m at one of the big european races at least 10 years ago who put in a coupel of sub 60sec 400's in teh middle of a 10000 and hung on he was wearing an white sweat band (kenyan) - anybody remember his name
Paul Kipkoech, he's dead, died of Malaria a few years ago, 1987 world champ at 10k and runner up twice at WXC

I know EL G has been almost unbeatable, but I think until he wins Olympic Gold he can't be the best tactical racer. Maybe that's being too hard on the guy though.
No, you're absolutely correct.
He can win time trials and rabbitted races where he can sit in 2nd place the entire time.
But in tactical races, where is he?
In tactical races ElG is the equal to his time-trials.
thats him - that was a great race to watch - we need some more of those nowdays - tired of watching time trials at major races - people are not going to break world records everytime they run!!!
Best - Tom Byers
Worst - Tom Byers
IMHO all races are tactical. EI G is great because he employs tactics which are best suited to him. Some people say he can't run 'tactical' races on the basis of one defeat - at Sydney. The guy is a monster. He is a three-times World Champion and has broken 3:30 for 1500 more times then everyone else put together. In fact I've seen him 'slow' races - at Gateshead a few weeks ago and in Sheffield last year.
I'll also nominate Paula as for the best tactician, though I've no doubt many will disagree. She uses tactics which make the best use of ability - sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. She knows she can't sprint so she works to her strength - that is excellent tactics.
The worst tacticians are all those runners out there who consistnely over-estimate their sprint finish - of which there are too many to name.
=Abdi by far
Gags is the worst, plus the runners who continually follow his tactical advice.
when did gags actually run a poor tactical race???

Tergat has by far received more ass kicking on the track and roads than anyone at that level. I have like 15 video tapes of him losing to various people over the years. Even the same road 10k in Italy to Geb like 3 years in a row.
Obviously the notable exception is World XC and the Stramilano 1/2, where he kicked ass every time he stepped up.
Interesting how the team tactics of XC worked for him but he never cashed in on the track in the same way....
Ismael Kirui, 5000m World champs win - just led the whole final lap and still won by a whisker. The kicks were just bouncing off the back of him.
