I've been on the usatf site and the new york road runners site and see no entry information for the 8k national championships. I'm just a mid-25 minute guy, but I'd like to get dragged along for a fast time. How the heck do you enter? Shouldn't this information be posted?

You are allowed to enter the NYRR 8000 (which is NOT the USATF race...it is the citizen's race held a couple hours before) on-line or by mail.
However, you have to be invited to the USATF 8k champs. Usually the individual associations have a slot of two available to sub-elite runners, so it may be in your best interest to contact your association's LDR coordinator. I was able to get some travel funds and a free (shared) hotel room as a 24:30 guy, but I was only traveling from central NY...not exactly a long trip. Dave Monti was the race organizer when I ran, not sure if he's still in charge but you may want to shoot him an email too.

thanks for the advice. i appreciate it. i just want a spot on the line. is this the only road championship race that's invite only? it seems like every other road race championship is part of a larger race. i initially thought this was the same type of situation.
You can use this website's search function and turn up David's email address without having to dig too deeply.
I feel confident saying that whether or not you get into the field, David will give your candidacy a fair evaluation, and that's all anyone can ask.
Scotty B., your post will only steer the OP to signing up for the slow NYRR race. There he will get crowded at the line by a bunch of yuppies looking to run 7 min pace. Its bs that all the other USATF races are held as part of a larger race and this one is like a secret society. It also seems like the NYRR is just doing the race this year to promote OT.
Could you answer those questions in addition to providing some usefull info on the OP's question?
thanks joe. i emailed dave. we'll see what happens. i don't think it's worth the trip to ny to run in the people's race even though it is st. patty's day.
has anyone given a reason why the 8k isn't just open to usatf members? there's no qualifying times needed, no entry information listed. it's an invite 8k, kinda like a bowl game, i guess. it just seems odd to me and i'd be interested if anyone had more information on why it's set up the way it is.
The open race, which is a Club race as well, starts at 7:30 and ends at 8:45. Presumably to get a crowd at hand to watch the championship race. The 7:30 start makes it virtually impossible for clubs outside the City to get to the thing (you'd have to be ready to go after getting your number and chip at about 7:20), so my Club won't be there.
NYRRC did the same things a couple of years back when this was run on Randall's Island, from Icahn Stadium.
