With all the talk about Catherine vs. Paula at Chicago next month, I think Takahashi is being overlooked. I won't be surprised if she runs a solo WR that's gonna make it hard for both Ndereba and Radcliffe. Just a gut feeling....

Nah....even by her own admission, she isn't in that good of shape. Honestly, I don't think she will be much of a factore this year.
TBD...
Plus she have agreed to run 2 marathons in 50 day span (she can't run a WR and be competitive in the 2nd). If she
does than AOY is probably hers!

Solo WR?
From what I have read, Takahashi is in great shape for Berlin in 2 weeks (Fernandez should be a very credible entrant). Still, I would argue the effort will not be "solo", in terms of running by herself. I suspect she will have a pace setter similar to the Chicago efforts.
Which brings me to my point.....
I just saw the entire 2002 London marathon tape over the weekend. Wow! Now that effort by Radcliffe was really a "solo" effort. Radcliffe pulled the "women's only" field (elite women started early) for most of the race. It reminded me of Benoit's effort in the 1984 Olympics. Nothing against the upcoming efforts, but extra points to the true solo run by Radcliffe. I didn't realize just how powerful the London race was until last weekend....and terrific coverage by the BBC.

I met the Sekisui team when I was in Kunming. (However, Naoko was training in Boulder at the time) The coaches told me that Naoko is shooting for low 2;18 at Berlin and that it will be done in roughly the same fashion as last year with a phalanx of male pacemakers.....
She wants the record back real bad apparently.
