Does anybody know how Kim Jones trained in her heyday? She ran an impressive amount of sub-2:30's. I know she did a lot of work indoors on the treadmill, but that is about it. Any insight or links appreciated.

Wasn't she the lady that Benji Durden trained for a period?
He used to post here a fair amount. Maybe he is still around

Yes, she was under the guidance of Benji for most of her career I believe. I don't know if she followed his "general" plans or not. She started out at relatively low mileage and made tremendous progress despite not have run the typical "100 mile" weeks.
I know she ran three hour sessions on her treadmill and then ran a second run later in the day once a week.

Great to hear Kim is at it again! Before the '92 trials, which she should have run away with, she incurred an injury, if I'm not mistaken, from ditching the treadmill for a day and running in snowy spokane . She started the trials race in Houston, but soon dropped. It had to be a huge disapointment, but classy woman that she is, she positioned herself out on the course to cheer the rest of us in. Janice Klecker, Cathy O' Brien and Francie Larrieu ,made the team that year. I was having a really lousy day struggling to crack the top 50, but when I saw Kim hollering for us at the 25th mile, I was really touched. . Hard to believe her little girl is 23 now, but then mine is 21! From the training described in the article, it seems very Benjiesque. I wish her the best of luck in her quest, I sure as hell am not going to go for a trials Q, so Kim, if you are out there you won't have to worry about getting jinxed by me (Houston, Cascade , and that 10k in DC):)

Pretty much most of my career. There were a couple of years when I coached myself because I wasn't sure what I wanted to do as far as the Olympic Trials in 1996, so I went off to the track and focused on more speed. I had advisors but I mostly made up my own workouts. I went back to Benji when I decided to do a marathon. I feel like I know what to do -- we all know what to do, but we need somebody there to keep us focused and settled down and not worried about our training.
