I agree. He has run other races with similar results before his big marathons.

On the other hand, it could be a terrible sign. That is really slow for a guy aiming for a 2:06 marathon. Some of us can't run a good half when in serious marathon mode, but to say a half way slower than marathon pace is a 'good' sign is going too far.

Great so in the 2008 Oly. distance events we'll have:

Marathon - KK & Meb

Mile - Lagat

Maybe we could get some other foreigners to become American so we can compete in the 10k, 5k and steeple too!!!

If we have learned anything from the cycling doping scandals we should recognize that guys who compete very poorly before a big event in which they do very well that they are probably in their "draw down" phase where they are slowly putting away blood to be re-injected at a later date. Remember tyler Hamiltons published doping logs? This is exactly what he did and a few weeks before hand he would do a small race and get his ass kicked and then when his "goal event" came along, he would re-inject and kick ass. Remember there is still no way to detect blood doping in running (that they use).

It's not too hard to imagine this is what KK is doing. His performace at london last time was really unreal concidering his 8k 3 weeks prior. When performances seem unreal, they usually are.

you are right on the money. You do not run like shit for a year then just bust out a 2:07. My PR is 2:10 so I do know a little. Drugs for sure

Look Meb went HS and College here, he's american enough. KK with that type of performance won't be making the team. He's never competed for US. I will continue to hate on Lagat. There's a big difference b/w comming to America at age 11 like Meb, and "becoming" an American after winning a silver medal for Kenya. Unfortunetly, he will most likely go barring a OT trials debacle. IAAF should institue FIFA like rules to cut this country switching crap.

He ran an 8k before London last year right at 2:07 pace. Then he ran 2:07. I'd say that this is on par for him.

All it means is that we have no idea what to expect from him. A 1:06 is very slow for him, no doubt. It's certainly not a good thing.

The half is notoriously difficult. KK has won the San Blas Half many times. It is difficult to speculate based on a time run there.
