5000m closing speed

well, hella fast considering bekele closed a 10K(!!!!) in 53 a few years back.

I was actually wondering what you close in? Sorry if I didn't make that explicit. I close about a 60-61. I know Said Auoita closed his 5k in a 52 once at World Champs, etc., but what have you all at LetsRun done?

and i believe his last hundred was under 11 seconds that race

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but Lagat closed in 51 during his 12:59.22 victory over a high quality field, including recently crowned world champion Benjamin Limo

65 once, probably done quicker though, who even takes their closing lap????????

Im assuming you are speaking of womens closing speed with the name you gave yourself. You would probably want to research the Ethiopian women. The top few have been able to close in under 60. As far as the men are concerned, you would want to look at Bernard Lagat. He closed in 51 on a 1259 race. Running a fast last 400 is one thing but running one off of a fast pace is something entirely different. Bekele, yes, as the other poster mentioned has also closed very well. But in my opinion, the fastest has been the Kenyans Isaac Sangok and Abraham Chebii. Both have also run 51 and 52 second final 400s at the end of fast 5Ks.

I remember one year Alan Webb won the 5K at the Penn Relays by running extremely fast in the last lap (like in the low 50 range).

I closed in a 60.x once in a conference 5k. Went through in 14:47, ended up 15:47. I felt like crap after and for a few minutes I had been thinking it was a 70.x, which confused me for a while since I thought I had run faster. It was definitely what you would call a tactical race, considering we hit an 84 second lap in there.

Bekele lost in Athens and Paris as well. What do you consider once in a blue moon?

SMJO - and how many races has Bekele won? Lots, so yes, he loses once in a blue moon.

Did you run for D3? What conference? I may know who you are...

To say "nobody has a chance no matter how the race unfolds" when we can all name several times when he has lost just seems a bit silly. Bekele does tend to lose when it comes down to a kick versus better sprinters.
