I am reading through some clinic notes and he uses the term repeatedly. Anyone familiar with the system he uses to train Tiffany McWilliams?

A fulcrum workout refers to a transitional workout between base training and faster paced (i.e. race pace, sub-race pace) training. Joe Vigil is one of America's first coaches to implement a proper fulcrum workout. This drastically reduced injuries in his runners that would tend to happen around the transition between base training and pre-competition training.
Please, give me a break. Transitional workouts from base training to interval training has been practiced by coaches all over the country (and world) for decades.

So you would use these 8-12 weeks out from your major championship?
Schmidt's seem pretty intense for that time of year...for example...he had Tiffany McWilliams do:
1. 1000m at 1500m pace
2. 10 minute rest
3. 600m followed by 3x200m, all at 1500m pace, no recovery interval specified.
I understand the idea behind this sort of workout, but its hard to imagine a college kid doing this sort of workout in March.
You obviously haven't learned yet that when Al Schmidt speaks about training, it's nap time in the audience. The guy struck gold with McWilliams. Lightning struck once and hasn't returned. You are better off to snooze through his presentations.

Actually I wasn't there...these were passed on to me from a friend of a friend who saw him speak.
