How many runners does a fast 3000m race usually include?

    I would like to get into the fast heat of a 3000m race at a big invitational and I am trying to gage just how difficult this will be as a post-collegiate running without a coach, agent, sponsor or any of that jazz. Anyway, how many people usually make up a 3000m heat?

    how fast are we talking here?

    i'd say there are generally 12-18 runners in a heat
