2 x 3 x 800m with 200m jog between the reps (at 1:10) and 3 mins rest between the sets. Is this a good 3k session?

yes, but 6x800 consecutively at 3k pace with 2 min jog rest in between would be a bit more beneficial from a threshold/aerobic standpoint. once that becomes comfortable, you can switch it to either a 200m jog or sendoffs every 4 minutes(if you run 2 20, thats a 1 40 rest, etc.) which is a very race specific workout.
what pace? can't really help you without that info.

dawalog, how much distance would be covered in the 2 min jog rest? 400?
if you can work up to covering 400m that would be great, but whatever you can cover in the beginning...this is a good session to do over a 12 week period, maybe every 4 weeks, to monitor progress
