I think he has hit a new fitness level, ie the "kenyan level", because in addition to his talent he is disciplined, focused and consistent. What sets him apart from the other big guns in American distance running? My guess is that he is very emotionally and mentally powerful because he trains his inner self as much as his physical self. Many elite runners are unhappy, unfulfilled people. This may result in a lot of little decisions being made incorrectly which add up to not fulfilling ones potential. I am not saying that just because he is religious he is a great runner, but I am saying that he may be running great because of some of the physical benefits that mental/spiritual training can bring. Thoughts?
