It's apparently an unusual injury, and the doctors don't agree on how it happened, but somehow I ended up with a proximal fibula fracture, about four inches from the head of the bone and made it worse by running on it quite a bit (it didn't feel too bad until it was too late). That was 9 weeks ago, I've done nothing but swim and stationary bike (once the bike was pain free at abt 6 wks) and based upon an xray taken at 6 wkds, showed the 'knot' where the bone was healing and the doctors said that the bone was healing normally and that I could start running @ 8 wks.
Has anybody experienced this injury? How long did it take to heal? And how did it feel when you came back-was there discomfort when you ran, or should I wait until there's no discomfort at all? The doctors gave vague advice and basically said that I'm fine to start running at 8 wks, but when I tried, after about 3 laps on the track, there was some discomfort. Is that normal?
