It seems like the new Elite III will no longer be a very lightweight trainer, but that it has a lot more stability and cushioning. Why did they change this up and are they going to come up with a different lightweight trainer to replace it?

Good question. I was Asics dude for years (I still wear DS and 2010), but several years ago I fell in love with the Span Triax, remained loyal even has the shoe got progressively worse, switched to the Elite when it came out, and have stuck with it since. I hope Nike doesn't screw up the one shoe in their line I liked, but apparently they have.
Maybe they'll come out with some great light trainer, but I doubt it.
Where are you getting your info? How do you know the Elite 3's are heavier than the 2's? How much do the 3's weigh?

I recall a thread from a few weeks back in which a peron supposedly in the know said get the old ones while you can because the new ones were bulkier and more cushiony.
Scroll through this.

I need details, not subjectivity. I'll believe it when I see it.
I saw you run in Axioms. How are they compared to Elites? Have you tried Tangents?

Yes, I run in all three. The Axioms have a more open mesh, a wider forefoot, and a little less stability. The Tangent is the lighest and least stable of the three, and I don't use it as an everyday shoe because I'm slow and fat. I love the Axiom 2 and elite.

Cant give you the weight of the Elite III, but I saw the model myself, and there is definitely a lot more shoe, especially on the heel. Not nearly as light..
Any suggestions for replacements from other brands?
I thought they were planning on bringing the Skylons back. Didn't I read that somewhere?
Get the brooks adrenalines, they feel like the zoom elite I's. I'm not too sure about the adrenaline 7 yet.
The 3's will be better than the 2's. The Span is coming back this Spring. I look for it to take the place of the Elite 2's. It probably won't be very stable though. The new Adrenalines feel nothing like the Elite I's. Skylon will be back but it's really not gone anywhere, they just called it the Hayward. I've done some product testing for Nike and they really sent me some terrible stuff. I hope it doesn't make it into production.
Did you test the Elite 3's? Can you confirm that they are beefier than the 2's? Any other comparisons?
