Chris:
Welcome to an ongoing conversation, gald you could join in the middle. Get yourself up to speed and the last comment will make sense.
First, go search and you'll find at least 20 threads I done on how the system is flawed and how it traps many innocent athletes. So, it's hardly about peeing in a cup and being on your way.
(If you notice above, wejo is now sick of me constantly pointing out the flaws in this system and wants to regulate me. So, I'll leave it to you to see the numerous examples I've posted.)
Second, it has also been well document the insane hatred for dopers on this board. I bleive it is, in part, from jealous sub-elites that feel better when someone better than them fails. This is not just me but many other posters that have expressed these same sentiments. It's also a destructive attitude that ruins the sport for all involved.
Third, the entire system of doping is coming under scrunity, As I've also posted over and over, and the long two part series in the LA Times last month (still linked on the front page) and the story about WADA in this month's Wired (thread on this as well) are all very critical of the current system. I surmised that the press/media is anticiapting Landis walking and/or Gatlin getting off and will use this as a platform to tear apart the current system. So, instead of defending the indefensable (the current system), look at it for the flaws it has.
Otherwise, WADA is at risk of losing credibility which will suit the Chinese just fine (and I would argue the Russians as well). They have their doping camps in place to clean up in the 2008 Olympics and if WADA is ripped a new one, more metals for them!
Fourth, I have also suggested in numerous other threads ways to fix the current system. Again you'll have to search to find them as I'm probably over my "wejo limitation." Basically they involve relaxing the "strict liability" standards and opening the science up to peer review outisde if WADA approved labs.
Lastly, I've also had many threads asking what exactly is a performance enchancing drug or PED (under the name "Not A Doctor"). I've argued the list is too long and too restrictive. I'm not alone in this thinking, Jocques Rogge, head of the IOC and Pedro Delgado (1980s Tour winner) have said the same thing. Problem is WADA determines what is a PED for everybody in all sports, one size fits all in this regard. The list is 11 pages long and they want to add altitude tents and caffeine. They are out of control in adding stuff and a serious discussion of what a PED is needs to be started. Dick Pound, the head of WADA, disagrees. He believes the system is fine and only needs "minor tweaks", if that.
I hope you get to read this thread before it gets deleted. These kind of ideas/thoughts are far too dangerous to say out loud.
