This is from a great site. The Ducks dominated the team portion.

very nice. thanks for sharing.
great race....Salazar, Chapa, etc....they threw everything they had at Rono, but Rono prevailed. I want to see Rono race this summer, in person.
Great stuff.
Chronicles a great race and insight to a great team.
Cool stuff.
Some runner IDs: It's Bill Stolp, not "Stolt". The WSU guy behind Clary a ways down is Steven James. The lead UW runner in the first sequence is John Lermusik (still junior record holder for Pike's Peak marathon!?). Looks like Jeff Nelson around 7th man for the Ducks; he had just set the HS 2-mile record that spring (8:36).
Wasn't AlSal NCAA champ in '78 because Henry ran off course?

Henry wasn't ready that year after the spring that he set 4 WRs. Henry won 3 NCAA's and nearly finished DFL in 1978.
I don't see Jim Hill in any of these shots. Does anyone remember his status during his freshman year? Injured, redshirted, resting?
In the picture is Bruce Nelson suppose to be Jeff Nelson?

There were two Nelson's. That is Bruce Nelson.
Jeff nelson's pics are on another page.
Jim Hill did not run. His foot was in a cast. He had an acute case of Achilles tendinitis.
Jeff Nelson is #8, visible in the pack in the early shots, and just over Bruce Nelson's right shoulder in the name-captioned photo.
Wasn't it still the Pac-8 back then?
According to the Pac 10 site the change occured in 1978.
Hmm, so who was in the north division of the Pac10? I only saw UW, WSU, OSU, and UO runners in those photos. Was it Stanford or Cal? Or was the north division just 4 teams while the south was 6?
I'm not completely sure, but I don't think USC had XC back in the 70s/80s.
Northern was only WA and OR schools. Probably Southern was originally the 4 CA schools, then AZ was added.
Some excellent pix and memories, thanks
Was this X-C course at Lane CC; over the hill from Eugene??? Anyone on here ever run that course?

That is Lane CC. I've seen a few races there.
It is Lane Community College just off 30th Avenue in Eugene. I ran the 10,000 course years ago at a Turkey Trot where Al Tarpening was going to give a turkey to the winner. A bunch of LCC guys and a few Ducks (I vividly recall Ken Martin) showed up and were taking it easy in order to tie and try to get several turkeys from Tarp. I hung along for the ride. After the first 5k, Tarp told them that he would only give out one turkey no matter what the results. The pack picked it up, and I ended up with nothing more than turkey roll in the dorms for Thanksgiving.
The course is also used for the OSAA state XC races each fall. The staff at LCC has improved the course this past year. They've addded a more definitive bark portion along 30th Avenue from the 1 mile mark to the ponds.
