I Love L.A. it was 79F today. I went swimming, then a 10k. Man, it's great here. Hope you had a freezeing Kwanzaa whereever you are. Remember the old saying, "There's no life forms east of Vegas".

Wish I could be there in your warm winter. Over here in Hawaii we had a sun storm today. I was out all morning shoveling the sunshine off my sidewalk. I ran up Tantalus this morning with a guy from LA. He said he would much rather run in LA than Hawaii because he doesn't like to breathe anything he can't see.
There's more Hawaiians in L.A. than in Hawaii now. Island fever and the Japanese occupation are the top reasons. We welcome all refugees from Hawaii, east, south, Mexico, etc. Everybody is welcome here in L.A.

Ha! Go hang in the middle of the barrio with the real mexicanos, not the ones here for a generation or two. What a crock. The crime level is out of control, with the feds and local authorities outright lying to cover it up (I work in an area of law enforcement is all I'll say). Those of us on the street are ordered not to speak about it. Don't trust local city officials anywhere, and the Feds are outright evil.
80% of this city is so polluted with crime and garbage it's no doubt one of the twin capitols of Latin America, the other being Miami. Most of the nice areas are outside of L.A. proper.
I will say the smog is exaggerated, as anyone who's been to the midwest back in the days of the factories will tell you, never mind some of Jersey and NY now. P-U. Smells almost as bad as the illegal alien enclaves.
However, it is nice to run near the beaches or in the mountains.
That's what's great about L.A. It's undergoing recovery by Mexicans and Latinos as is the entire southwestern United States. The economy of Southern California and the Southwestern United States in general has always been driven by immigration from foreign countries and other parts of the United States. Immigrants add so much value to L.A. It's dynamic. The area is constantly changing. Ethnic mobility from one neighborhood out to the suburbs occurs in as short as one generation or 20 years. That's the magic of L.A. No matter where you come from, the day you arrive, you are an "L.A. guy", there's no snotty-nosed-assholey requirements, "it's your beach too dude" is the L.A. way.
People, please lets not once again confuse being poor and living in LA and having cash and living in LA. There is a difference.
We all gonna die, either from that or a terrorist nuke strike or flu pandemic.
Start drinking.
Naw. The ISG wants us out of Iraq. The war is OVER. If the U.S. ends the occupation of Palestine there's no reason for Islam to attack the U.S. Let's hope for the best. Give Peace A Chance.
It's around 50 here in New England. It's been warm all month. Enjoy your smog, earthquakes, landslides and fires.
troll looking to create a stir
la sucks! too damn crowded. running in the cold/elements makes u a tougher runner. lots of talented runners in la but ancetodally seem that many runners from certain other parts of the country are 'tougher' and don't cry when the temps go below 50 and it rains.

Haven't seen that. I have seen the 'tough' midwesterners and easterners fade when temps go to 85 and above, and they're supposed to be able to handle humidity and the like. What is a shame is that our AR's for 800, 1500 ('native born), mile, 5k and 10k are so old, no matter where the guys are from.
With the population in CA turning mexican due to (hidden) govt policy, you'll see less and less guys even close to Johnny Gray (800 AR) or Steve Scott (mile AR) coming out of CA. You might see a few marathoners, but unless you've been out here, you don't realize the new 'culture' arising is a mix of 'traditional' latin american criminal worship plus street gangsterism, and they aren't into too many sports other than drive-bys, murder, rape, robbery and tagging. Of course, these are just the jobs Americans don't want to do.
Certain words not capitalized on purpose - they don't deserve it.
In no particular order, Allyson Felix, Torri Edwards, Maurice Greene, Khadevis Robinson, Frances Santin, Virginia Powell (US champ 110H) all live in Los Angeles (Khadevis actually in Santa Monica). Leonard Scott lives in Orange County (Irvine). Both SMTC and HSI train in the LA area. There's also an interloper named Carl Lewis who is apparently going to run for elective office from Santa Monica. More olympic/WC medals in this group than Eugene and Boulder--combined--could ever dream of having.
The reason, of course, is the year-round training conditions that the climate permits.
It's no secret that sprinters avoid cold weather conditions and most of our track success in the U.S. is centered around 400 meters and shorter. No serious sprinter that I know of in Boulder. Sprinters don't need to train at altitude. It has nothing to do with the toughness of runners from LA as opposed to Boulder. It's like comparing downhill skiers to cross country skiers. It's not a fair comparison.

I thought it was all about what car you drive?
HSI aka Team Balco is still in existence??
anyone who likes it in la can stay in la. it'll just mean fewer idiots for me to deal with when i leave this hellhole in ~520 days.
(and no, this opinion has nothing to do with immigration)
Don't come to CO, we've already got too many runaway LA dicks here.
79 in December, screw that! I live in the mid west and love it. Love the change of seasons. Best running weather is 25 to 45 degrees & with the mild winters as of late, we have gotten plenty of the good stuff.
Liar. The cold has made you delirious. Who\'d want to live in the cold. Huddled up all winter, morose, and suicidal. The mid-west sucks. Live life. The beach. The sun. The pool. Cruise with the top down. L.A. is the Track and Field capitol of the world...
