Can anyone help here? I have got to be missing something here.
Take a 17 flat 5k runner.
1) Daniels T-pace recommends a pace of approx. 5:52 / mile. Doing no more than 20 minutes.
2) McMillian says 5:45 - 6:00 pace for tempo runs.
3) RWTB says 80 - 87% MHR and can go as long as 45 - 60 minutes for athletes with long runs over 90 minutes. 20 - 25 minutes for beginners, which is still longer than Daniels? Why so long?
Also, using the RWTB software, it gives a pace of 6:27 for LT running...quite a bit slower than either of the above! Is that because it is for a lot longer time period?
Finally, in the RWTB book, I have a lot of trouble following the South Hills HS example for LT Running. It says an athletes best 5k time is 21, equivalent to 43:47. It then says a 1% improvement would be 20:27 or 42:34 for 10k. How is that a 1% improvement?
They then claim to use LT runs that start at 7:00 pace and work down to 6:35 (1% improvement).
This seems to totally contradict the software package and is much faster than either Daniels or McMillian.
What gives?
