LEAD: The five-man team that will represent the United States in a 50-kilometer (31-mile) relay road race against eight other national teams on April 9 in Manhattan was announced yesterday at the weekly luncheon of track and field writers at Madison Square Garden. The race, called the Asics Cup America's Ekiden, will be held in New York City, the first time an Ekiden race will be held outside of Japan.
The five-man team that will represent the United States in a 50-kilometer (31-mile) relay road race against eight other national teams on April 9 in Manhattan was announced yesterday at the weekly luncheon of track and field writers at Madison Square Garden. The race, called the Asics Cup America's Ekiden, will be held in New York City, the first time an Ekiden race will be held outside of Japan. The American team will consist of Steve Scott, Mark Curp, Pat Porter, Mark Nenow and John Gregorek. Teams from the United States, Japan, England, France, the Soviet Union, Ireland, South Korea, Canada and Italy will compete in the race.
