You are officially a troll. I don't believe a single one of your posts have ever been genuine.
FOD, bitch. I could probably run a 90, at best, and I doubt wariner could run a 75. I doubt you could run 120. FOD.

Completely agree, glad someone else knows this too. Although it is funny/sad to see so many people take him seriously.
i think you're wrong. i think i could run a 75, because i can backpeddle very fast lol. im just not sure about the turn, i guess the main thing would be not to trip.
but im serious, i think wariner could run 60 easily.
do you not think this is an interesting topic?
personally, i am astounded that this topic has never been made before on letsrun
i think i remember hearing about someone doing 800m backwards in 2:50something sometime this year or last year. Just my two cents
thats not that fast. thats 85 pace
I think people have just given up calling him out as a troll and just go along with him now. He's so persistent that he his trolling has evolved into something else, it's not really trolling in the traditional sense any more. It's like he has completely embraced the idea of making stupid posts, that's just what he does and he's pretty damn good at it.
Back on topic though, I've never tried (or thought about) running backwards for more than 30 yards for drill sessions. You can get moving pretty good, but I think it seems like you're moving faster than you actually are. Try racing somebody who is running regularly with you backpedaling and you'll discover this pretty quickly. So I don't think Wariner could hit 60 if he just up and tried it, although if he trained for it some I think he could put up a 70.
I remember trying this in college. Another guy thought he could do it faster than me. I went first and did around 2:00, I think. Every muscle from the waist down was burning like I'd never experienced before. Everyone was giving me crap about my time. Then the other guy went, and I beat him by 8-10 seconds. After seeing the pain we endured no one else even tried it.
Anyone who thinks someone could do a 60 second backwards 400m has no f'ing clue what they're talking about.
well, remember we're talking about jeremy wariner. the 2nd fastest 400meter runner of all time.
also, my old coach once told me that running backwards hepls your form. he said it keeps you alinged for when you make the transition to forward runing.

Your old coach is an idiot. I see he taught you well.
Go out in the next couple days and give a backwards 400m a shot. Report back to us, and then see if you still think Wariner could run a 60, or if you're telling someone :85s isn't that great.
Knowing the fatigue my legs felt, I'm sure it is a great way to build strength and maybe improve form. Just another reason to go try it out and let us know how it goes. I bet you don't though.
We had a backwards running championship and I won with like a mid to low 80 and it hurt like no other. 2nd was in the 90s. That last 100m is incredibly tough.
World record, 1:09.56
And, in other news, Xu Zhenjun, with his 3:43:39 (backwards) marathon is a badass.
I wish I bothered scrolling through the entire list before posting it.
Boy, that Thomas Dold is a stud!
Does the racewalking community know about this demographic? I bet they'd be thrilled to know there is a group out there THEY can actually scoff at.
I think if I ever showed up at a track to do a workout and saw a racewalker and a guy doing backwards intervals, I'd just go home and call it a day.

And that's kind of what makes the whole thing brilliant. Few people have the skill to pull it off.

Dude, I don't think you could run a 75. Its a lot harder than you think it is! I think not tripping over yourself is the hardest part.
I'm guessing I'd have a hard time breaking 1:45.
Do you think there is a positive correlation between one's forward 400 speed and their backward 400 speed? In other words, would Wariner be the fastest in the world at the backwards 400? I don't know, I think different muscles and mechanics are invovled. It would be interesting to see how the top 50 400 runners in the world would fare in a backwards race.
I wonder what the fastest backward beer mile is.
I ran a mid 80 in the backwards 400m once. It hurt like no other. Your good for about 200-250m, then you start tieing up. It feels like your an uncoordinated klutz that last 100m. Not to mention the last turn just sucks.
Anyways it's harder than you think. I was the fastest and we had maybe one or two other guys sub 100.
Don't try a backwards 4x100m....handoffs are a disaster.
i cant believe the wr is only a 69.56!!!
i guess theres just very many people who have attempted it.
