I noticed from a previous thread that Wejo mentioned doing his aerobic conditioning runs around 7:00 to 7:30 pace once after he graduated college. Obviously, this has been working for him. (This may not have been the only factor to have worked for him to be able to race for 4th in the nation, but i'm sure it's a big component to his success.)
If Wejo trains at this pace day in and day out, is he still within the accepted and generally used, 65%-80% of his MHR? I would think that If he was so fit, so physiologically tuned for running a quick 10k, then his HR be substantially lower than 65% of his max if he ran 7 minute pace everyday. If he runs out of his aerobic heart rate range (lower than his range) every single day, isn't he missing all the benefits to a sound training program?
Can someone explain how his slow training works, makes him faster? I always thought that running within the 65%-80% range is clutch. But, this HR target zone seems too high for Wejo assuming that he runs 7 minute pace everyday.
Thanks
