hi,
Yesterday i ran a 4.1 km (2.56miles) xc in 14.25, on a muddy course, do you think it's possible for me to run sub 17 on 5km (on a flat road course)??
thx for all the responses!

Right now, sub 17 for 5K would be a bit of a stretch I think, unless the mud in the shorter distance was really thick and slowing you down quite a bit. Nevertheless, it appears that sub 17 (and possibly much faster) road racs are in your future if you keep training.
Assuming you can hold the same pace you ran 4.1k for 5k.
Then your 5k time is 17min 33secs on a muddy x course.
To run 6 secs per k faster on the road is not unrealistic.
One day, I am sure, you will Waltz it.
7 secs per k faster I meant.
I think it is very much realistic. I know my senior year of high school, I ran 13:45 or so on Van Cortland's course for 4K. A couple of weeks later on a hilly course, I ran a 16:40. So I think there is a conversion of 3 minutes from a normal 4K course and a hilly 5K course. So no hills will play a huge role and you will go sub 17.
maybe not based on that time, but you could get under 17, no question, if you run well in a road race.
mud can slow you down a lot, at octoberfest this year i ran over 17:30 and i normally run around 16:20
so, yes its possible
