Misses a sub 3 hour marathon by 30 seconds.
Love him or hate him, I am impressed that a guy can run 49 marathons/26.2 miles runs in a row and then finish it off with a 3 hour marathon.

And got beat by a retired cyclist.

Who just happened to be the 7 time winner of some bike race in France. No shame there.
I'm really unimpressed with Dean. For all the hype that he creates, you'd think he could do more than do long jogs for 49 days leading up to his best marathon.
Virtually every one of his other 49 marathons were at pedestrian paces. Some of them nearing 5 hours.
Yeah, it's a cool feat for someone to go out and do, but it's not worthy of RW covers and TV interviews. I, and a lot of other people who post here, could do what Dean just did if we had the time and money.

riiiiiiiiiiight
bullshit! I'm not saying he is fast, but I'd love to see how your legs held up after a 150 mile week. Don't be so quick to brag how you could do it, if only . . . blah blah.
I for one have run a few 150 mile weeks at a pace faster than this guy runs his marathons.
Especially since it isn't likely that Karnie has ever doped.

7x26.2=183.4 not 150
that is 7 straight weeks of 183 plus another 3:00 marathon. i CANNOT stand the guy but doing that kind of volume and then pr'ing with a 3:00 marathon at the end is not a joke. most people on here cannot do that. most people on here cannot even run a 3:00 marathon with a taper...
Now the guy may be slow but...
give some credit 26.2 miles per day equals 185 miles per week for 7 weeks straight, on in singles. Then caps it off with a 3 hour marathon. How fast could he run fresh? Not that fast true.
Keep in mind these marathon have been in different states, that means he's sitting in car or plane traveling everyday.
He is very durable if nothing else. Most people on this board would be toast if they tried running 26 on pavement, everyday, one run.
Didn't Dean throw in a couple of 3:05's and such. Yeah, he ran most of his marathons around 4-4::10, but for the guy saying he has done a few 150 mile weeks, did you do 26 miles a day or maybe a 10-12 in the morning with around 10 at night?
I am still impressed that he finished it all off with a 3 hour maraton.
He's in the back of an RV catching a nap or getting a massage while someone else drives.
in singles? and for many consecutive weeks?
Gerry the Jogger ran what Dean ran for years straight. I think I have seen him quoted saying "I averaged 240 miles per week for that year."
Gerry L. could have been a rich man if he was as much of (I run 5 times a day, look at me, look at me, attention give me now) a runner as Dean.
I think he says that in Daniels' book.
...can we move on please? Thank you.
No.

Gerry says a lot of things. Let's hear it from a reputable source, not "I was on pace for a sub-2 hr marathon", Gerry. He did amazing things, but I only believe what I've seen in official results from him, unfortunately.
I currently know three people training at near that mileage and I know of many others who have and they never claimed to be testing the limits of human endurance. Take Bill Rodgers and Ray treacy for example. They were not running slow all the time either. I would not claim to be able to do some of his extreme ultra races but 50 marathons in 50 days I could have done faster. I just don't have the hollywood face to go with it and that's the difference.
Oh yeah, I'm extremely hairy too, not good for GQ.
