I'd train pretty much the same as always. What I found really helped my 800 was just doing a LOT of strides. Do workouts like 16 x 80m. You should run as fast as you can without sacrificing form. Do this and maybe do some similar workouts on a steep hill. Take full recovery (at least 2:00) between reps. Start out with something like 8 x 80m @ 800pace and progress each week until you can do 16 x 100 @ 200m pace. I went from 2:00 to 1:56 in one year, and I think it was mostly due to my speed.
