David, last year Solomon HAD to go to NY, not really prepared, for a choice of his club (MAPEI), needing him as testimonial at the beginning of the race. So, officially he was a competitor, but really he didn't have preparation enough for finishing a full marathon.
Instead, this year he used a SPECIFIC PROGRAM starting from half of June, and lasting 4 months. His test in Rotterdam HM was done in full period of heavy training. That's the reason because I was sure that he could compete for winning in Amsterdam, haveing a value under 2:08.
Many times, marathon is a problem of organization. I gave to the group of runners living and training in Iten a specific program for a well identified marathon, and ALL THEM went to win improving their PB : on 24th SEP, Stephen Kibiwott won Torino in 2:10:10 coming from 2:12:42 (his second Marathon, but first time with a specific program) ; the same day, Daniel Rono won Toronto in 2:10:14, coming from 2:12:03 in Mumbai (3 marathons, 3 victories, remember this name for the future). They had the same program, and trained together, with very little differences. Two weeks later, on 8th OCT, Philip Singoei won Eindhoven with his new PB of 2:08:18. Finally, Solomon had a very good debut winning in 2:08:52 in Amsterdam. Philip and Solomon had 50% of their training together, different from Daniel and Stephen, because 2-3 weeks of difference for running a marathon are very important.
Next athletes, from the same group, competing, are Samson Kosgei in Nairobi, Philip Manyim in Seoul and, of course, something very interesting for you, Rita Jeptoo in NY.
We meet there, I hope for something good.
