if we had a contest on here to see which guys are faster--those who happen to drink (sometimes a bit too much), and those who don't--I can almost guarantee that the drinkers would win out. For instance recently saw one of the best women runners in the US (multiple national championships) absolutely obliterated. Same goes for every other all-american, sub-4 miler, ncaa champ, etc.... that i know or have run across at a party.
i'm not claiming that drinking actually helps you physically. however, people who come on here with their holier-than-thou crap about how drinking is so evil can shove it and go re-watch old olympic races online saturday night while the rest of us have fun. we'll still kick your ass on race day.
finally, i respect people who choose not to drink but don't make a stink about it. it's just the worst when the 15:30 5k'ers get on their soapboxes because they are SOOOOOOO fast and dedicated!
running is a hobby. have fun with it and train your ass off, and enjoy life off the track (or roads, etc...).
my only suggestion to the original poster would be to learn to enjoy a few drinks without getting wasted.
